Bridgwater Ju-Jitsu - Self-defence and fitness for everyone.

WHAT IS JU-JITSU?

Ju-Jitsu is a defensive martial art based on taking an opponent's strength and movement and using it against them. This martial art combines many defensive and attacking techniques that are designed to cause the opponent to lose balance and fall. Once the opponent is on the floor there are many ways to apply locks, strike and choke you’re opponent to disable them.

The name "Ju-Jitsu" is composed of two words: "Ju" meaning "gentle" and "Jitsu" - "art", so it can be translated as "gentle art". Although it doesn't appear to be a gentle art to the outside viewer.

The syllabus covers various throws, locks and strikes. We also include escaping from choke holds and head locks both standing and on the floor, which makes Ju-Jitsu perfect for females who want to learn to defend themselves.

WHAT WILL JU-JITSU DO FOR ME?

Ju-Jitsu offers the full knowledge and the best answer for self-defence situations, and tools to handle these situations whenever there is need. In addition, the Ju-Jitsu trainings improves fitness, agility and raises the self-confidence that influences not only in training, but also on life itself. It has already been proven that people, who train in martial arts, children and adults, improve their achievements, concentration, peace of mind, self-confidence and self-awareness.

This martial art suits everyone; kids, teenagers and adults, male and female, fit and those who haven't been exercising for some time.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Wear old clothes, a track suit or a gi (one of the white martial arts suits if you have access to one). Don’t wear your favourite t-shirt - it may get damaged. Ladies are advised to wear a high neck T-shirt to save any embarrassment and a sports Bra for comfort. We train bare foot so we do ask that toe and finger nails are kept short and clean. Articles of clothing which have sharp edges such as belts or items of jewellery must be removed. If jewellery cannot be removed then it must be taped over with a plaster.
